Smoky Mountains Visitor Centers Provide Resources to Assist With Your Visit!
There
are several Smoky Mountains visitor centers in the national park to
provide resources and facilities to help you get the most out of your
visit to the Smoky Mountains. Your visit to the Smoky Mountains
National Park should always start with a visit to one of the several
visitor centers. There you can pick up a park map, get questions
answered by a park ranger, purchase books or park guides and see
exhibits about the Smoky Mountains.
There are three Smoky Mountain visitor
centers located in the park located at Cades Cove, Sugarlands and
Oconaluftee. There are also four visitor centers located outside the
park in area towns. The centers are everyday, year round except
Christmas Day. Below are the different Smoky Mountains visitor centers:
The Cades Cove Visitor Center
is located inside the park on the Cades Cove Loop Rd. near the midpoint
of the 11 mile road. You can check at the visitor centers about ranger
led programs. There is a bookstore, shop and restrooms available. There
are indoor and outdoor exhibits of the life and culture of the area
mountain life. There are also several historic sites including a grist
mill that operates spring through fall, the Becky Cable house and other
structures.

Smoky Mountains Visitor Centers Hours: Open every day except Christmas Day.

Oconaluftee Visitor Center
is located inside the park, 2 miles north of Cherokee, NC on US 441.
There are ranger led programs available, soda and water machines,
restrooms, telephones and shops. You can also get your back country
camping permits here. There is a Mountain Farm Museum that has a
collection of log farm buildings including a farmhouse, barn, corn
cribs, smokehouse, applehouse and others. During peak seasons you can
see demonstrations of farm life at this museum.

The Sugarlands Visitor Center
is located inside the park 2 miles south of Gatlinburg on US 441. There
are ranger led programs available, shops, public restrooms, telephones,
soda and water machines. You can also get your back country permits
here. There are many natural history exhibits and a free 20 minute film
about the national park.

Off
site Smoky Mountains visitor centers include the Gatlinburg Welcome
Center located in downtown Gatlinburg at light #3 on the Parkway. There
is another Gatlinburg Welcome Center located on the spur between Pigeon
Forge and Gatlinburg. The Sevierville Visitor Center is located on US
66 in Sevierville. And there is the Townsend Visitor Center located in
Townsend, TN on US 321.
