If you visit the area in the summer time,
keep in mind that it is not uncommon to have a thunderstorm during the
heat of the afternoon. The summer heat lasts until late September. Then
the Pigeon Forge weather becomes cooler and the beauty of the fall
foliage begins to appear. The changing leaves peak usually around mid
to late October depending on the weather conditions prior to this time
such as the amount of rain and number of cool nights. From Late
November until late March you can see some snowfall but not always much
accumulation.
If you plan a visit to the Smoky Mountains
National Park, you may want to dress appropriately. Temperatures at the
higher peaks of the park generally run about 20 degrees cooler than
Pigeon Forge. Also it should be noted that the higher elevations of the
park are a temperate rain forest. The warm moist air from the valley
ascends into the cooler air of the mountains and the water vapor in the
air condenses and it rains. It rains quite often in the Smokies even
though it doesn't rain in Pigeon Forge at the same time.
