Pigeon Forge Family Rafting is a Thrilling Vacation Adventure
For
a thrilling adventure while on vacation, try a Pigeon Forge family
rafting experience. The Pigeon River runs through the Smoky Mountains
and provides Class 2 – Class 4 rapids for all to enjoy. Not only
is the Pigeon River one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the
Southeast but it also provides breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountain
region.
In the Eastern United States, rapid ratings
range from class 1 – class 6 with a class 1 being the easiest and
class 6 being the roughest. The Big Pigeon River has 50 class 1 and 2
rapids, 14 class 3 rapids and 4 class 4 rapids. The upper Pigeon River
provides the higher class rapids, the longer trips and most fun!
You’ll hit almost 70 rapids! You must be 8 years old and at least
70 lbs. to run the Upper Pigeon River. You’ll hit some big drops
and some big waves and you’ll certainly get wet. But you will be
very safe as an experienced guide will be with you on your raft on any
Pigeon Forge family rafting trip.
Pigeon
Forge family rafting on the lower river portion is perfect for the
smaller kids. The trip takes you through the scenic Pigeon River gorge.
You’ll hit mostly class 1 & 2 rapids with a class 3 at the
end, about 50 rapids in all. The trip is more laid back and water
fights and splashing is very common! Kids must be at least 3 years old
and accompanied by an adult.
Kayaking
is another form of whitewater fun to experience on the local river.
They are guided tours as well but these trips let you drive the kayak.
Mom, dad and the kids will enjoy getting closer to the river and have
more control over having fun in the rapids. Another way to enjoy the
local scenic rivers and surroundings is to rent tubes and go tubing
down the river. There is nothing better than a slow, relaxing tube ride
down the river on a summer vacation in Tennessee!
Some helpful tips for Pigeon Forge family rafting adventures:
*Trips go rain or shine!
*Bring a towel and a change of clothes “cause yer gonna git
wet”! You can wear shorts or swimsuit, tennis shoes or water
shoes and don’t forget the sunblock. In cooler weather
you’ll want to dress warmer but don’t wear cotton as it
tends to cling to your body keeping you wet and clammy, certainly not
warm! Many places will provide you with a complimentary spray jacket if
you like.
* Carolina Light & Power releases water from their Dam several days
a week in the summertime for recreational purposes. Try and book your
trip on one of these days for more exciting rapid activity.
* Prices generally range from about $26 to $36 per person depending on
the trip you take. All trips are about 2 hours long on the water.
* Need to know how to swim; you are equipped with coast guard approved life vests.
* No experience needed, very experienced guides will accompany you.
* If you bring a camera, make sure it is waterproof.
* Call ahead to make reservations, many weeks ahead is best.
